Driver Requirements
- Must be at least 23 years of age.
- Must have 2 years of verifiable tractor trailer experience for Tanker, and 1 year for Flatbed.
- Hazmat and Tanker endorsements are required to begin training. A TWIC may be required in some locations (inquire within).
- Current CDL must be in your state of residence.
- Must pass a Road Test, Drug Test, and Physical prior to hiring.
- No more than 3 total moving violations in the last 3 years, with no more than 1 moving violation in the last 12-month period prior to hiring.
- No more than 1 preventable on-road accident in the last 3 years.
- No reckless/careless driving convictions or pleas in the last 3 years.
- No roll-over accident in a commercial vehicle on record.
- No preventable rear end accident on record.
- Felony and misdemeanor convictions will be evaluated based on the nature and gravity of the offense or conduct, the time that has passed since the offense or conduct and/or completion of the sentence, and the nature of the job sought. Penn Tank Lines will further provide an individualized assessment for applicants excluded by the aforementioned screening to determine whether the policy as applied is job related and consistent with business necessity.
- No DUI/DWI conviction or pleas in the past 7 years.
- No license suspension or revocation for a moving violation in the last 3 years.
- No previous positive drug/alcohol screening results.
- No speeding violations in the last 3 years 15 mph or more over the posted limit.
- Must be able to read, speak, and write the English language in accordance with FMCSR 391.11 (B) (2).
- Must meet all US DOT requirements.
Truck Requirements
All units being considered for a lease agreement must:
- Have a current and valid Federal Annual Inspection.
- Be equipped with an electronically controlled engine.
- Engine must be capable of transmitting data to the cab data port.
- No frame stretches, alterations or weld repairs.
- Meet all Federal, State, Local and Company requirements determined in a pre-lease vehicle inspection, including a Federal Annual inspection and a Penn Tank Lines Schedule “A” inspection. Such inspection is to be performed by an authorized company representative, a company designated third party, or approved “new” truck dealership.
- Have a horizontal or vertical exhaust that exits behind the cab.
- Have an exhaust system with a muffler and heat shield or resonator.
- Not have accessories that would block the driver’s vision in any direction or take away from a professional fleet appearance, including but not limited to: drop visors, spiked lug nut covers, and dog teeth radiator screens.
- Be subject to periodic examination of company/commercial trucks as well as personal vehicles located on company premises, with the appropriate corrective/disciplinary action being taken for any unauthorized apparatus found (e.g. improper hoses, fittings, pumps, fuel storage containers, etc.).
- Have no window tint other than factory installed.
- Have all items inside the cab fully secured. *Any transfer of equipment internally must meet these guidelines as if it were new; no grandfathering of mechanical engines.
Additional Requirements:
Local Day Cab Tractor for Tank Division
- 12 years or newer from current date is preferred; older units may be considered by Director of Maintenance and Chief Risk Officer.
- Must not exceed a weight of 18,000 lbs. with driver and fuel.
- Must not exceed the maximum height of 11’6” which includes the top of the exhaust stacks.
- No roof fairings allowed.
- Wheel base – Must be within the range of 185 to 220 inches.
- Image / Appearance must be acceptable.
Sleeper Cab Tractor for Tank Division
- 12 years or newer from current date is preferred; older units may be considered by Director of Maintenance and Chief Risk Officer.
- Must not exceed a weight of 19,000 lbs. with driver and fuel.
- Must not exceed the maximum height of 11’6” which includes the top of the exhaust stacks.
- Must be a true mid-roof at a maximum cab height of 10’6” with no windows at the top of the sleeper.
- Wheel base must not exceed 240 inches.
- Image / Appearance must be acceptable.
Jet Tractor for Aviation Division
- 12 years or newer from current date is preferred; older units may be considered by Director of Maintenance and Chief Risk Officer.
- Must not exceed a weight of 19,000 lbs. with driver and fuel.
- Maximum height of tractor will be approved upon review.
- Wheel base must be within the range of 185 to 260 inches.
- Image / Appearance must be acceptable. Road / Sleeper Tractor for Flatbed Division (for multiple day dispatch)
- Must not exceed a weight of 19,500 lbs. with driver and fuel.
- Maximum height of tractor will be approved upon review.
- Wheel base must be within the range of 185 to 260 inches.
- Image / Appearance must be acceptable.
